The University of Southern Mindanao, Kabacan, Cotabato awarded
outstanding alumni and leaders on its 60th foundation anniversary last
October 1, 2012.
The awarding ceremony which was in cooperation with the USM Alumni
Association bannered the theme: “USM @ 60 and Beyond: Reminiscing,
celebrating, empowering.”
The outstanding alumni awardees are: Director Norlito P. Agduyeng,
BSA’71 (Agriculture major in Agronomy), Regional Technical Director on
Department of Agriculture Region XI for Extension and Community
Development; Lt. Col. Felix Ronnie B. Babac, ULS’86 (Laboratory School),
8th Military Intelligence Battalion Commander Philippine Army for
Administration; Dr. Marivic C. Cabuguas BSAHE’80, Education Program
Supervisor of the Department of Education in South Cotabato for
Education; Dr. Francisco Gil N. Garcia, BSAE’79, Vice President on
Resource Generation and Entrepreneural Services for Financial
Management; Director Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao, BSA’80 (plant pathology),
Southern Mindanao Agriculture and resources Research and Development
Consortium (SMARRDEC) for Research Management; Honorable Ernesto B.
Manuel, BSA ’74 (Agronomy), Tiboli Municipal Mayor for Local Governance;
and Ms. Nieda N. Ramos, BSAHE’79, Proprietor of Cresing’s Food Products
for Entrepreneurship.
Among the 8 leadership achievement awardees were the past presidents
and officer-in-charge of the USM formerly known as MIT or Mindanao
Institute of Technology. They are: Mr. Emeterio A. Asinas (1954-1957),
Mr. Perico Y. Arcedo (1958-1959), Mr. Dominador D. Clemente (1959-1974),
Mr. Amado O. Austria, LIB (1975), Mr. Jaman S. Imlan, PhD (1975-1988),
Mr. Eduardo Al. Araral, PhD (1988), Mr. Kundo E. Pahm, PhD (1988-1994),
and Mr. Virgilio G. Olive, PhD (1994-2009).
Governor Emmylou “Lala” J. Taliño-Mendoza, in her message as the
guest honor and speaker of the program, commended the USM for its
contribution to the growth of the province of Cotabato in the last 60
years. She hopes that the legacy of quality education especially in the
field of agriculture continues to inspire the future educators and
leaders of USM.
The governor also announced that the provincial government of
Cotabato and the USM will soon be signing a memorandum of agreement to
put up a cloning facility in the campus to be funded by the Department
of Agriculture.
Dr. Jesus Antonio G. Derije, President of the University of Southern
Mindanao, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to his predecessors
as well as his congratulations to the outstanding alumni for their
excellence in their chosen field of endeavor of which their achievements
and contributions brought benefit to the society and honor to the
university.
After the program, the governor and Dr. Derije proceeded to the
ceremonial turn-over of the USM Artificial Insemination Laboratory and
they signed the memorandum of agreement with Dr. Nilo M. Cabardo,
Territory Sales Manager of the San Miguel Foods Incorporated (SMFI).
More than 1,500 faculty members, students and guests attended the historic affair.sgjh
